  Sleep Duration and Academic Performance: A Longitudinal Study of Undergraduate Students

  A total of 847 undergraduates were recruited across three residential universities and tracked over two academic semesters. Sleep duration was measured both by self-report diary and wrist actigraphy, and academic outcomes were recorded at each assessment period.

  Students who slept fewer than six hours per night showed a 23% decline in next-day recall compared to those who slept eight or more hours, with the largest gaps appearing during examination periods.

  These findings held across self-reported and actigraphy-measured sleep duration, suggesting the effect is robust to measurement method.

  Participants were drawn from three residential universities, with follow-up assessments at four and eight weeks. Attrition was low (6.2%), and missing data were handled via multiple imputation.
